چکیده
years were under supervision for periods ranging from several months to more than 9 years. The obstruction was subvalvar in 3. Additional malformations were aortic regurgitation, persistent ductus arteriosus, coarctation of the aorta, ventricular septal defect, partial anomalous pulmonary venous drainage, and mitral stenosis. Bacterial endocarditis complicated 3. Of 5 deaths unrelated to operation, 3 were sudden. Surgical treatment was carried out in 12 patients (commissurotomy, valve replacement with or without previous commissurotomy, subvalvar resection) with 2 deaths. 52 patients remained symptom-free. Detailed investigation to assess the patient for surgical treatment is indicated if symptoms are present or electrocardiographic evidence of severe left ventricular hypertrophy appears. Commissurotomy is, where possible, deferred until an age at which valve replacement can be undertaken if the stenosis cannot be adequately relieved without causing substantial regurgitation.

Congenital aortic stenosis--an unusual form. Consideration of surgical management.
Three patients with severe congenital aortic stenosis in whom there was unusual thickening of the aortic valve associated with supra-aortic stenosis and aortic hypoplasia are described. The clinical presentation suggested the diagnosis of organic subaortic stenosis and surgical management presented problems. It is suggested that the aortic stenosis in these patients may be part of a more diffus...

Background: Balloon valvuloplasty is a relatively new technique for relief of obstruction of aortic valve. The primary results of this procedure are similar to surgical valvotomy with fewer complications and mortality. Materials and methods: One hundred fifty-five patients with congenital aortic stenosis were enrolled in this study over a period of 6 years (1991-1997). Participants were all un...
متن کاملAcquired Infrarenal Abdominal Aortic Coarctation: Treatment with Percutaneous Self Expandable Stent
Abdominal aortic coarctation is an extremely rare vascular pathology. Its etiology can be congenital or acquired. Here we present a case of acquired infrarenal abdominal coarctation in a 66-year-old woman who complained of low back and legs pain. She had no signs of resting lower limb ischemia, with diminished distal pulses and normal blood pressure in upper and lower extremities. Magnetic reso...
متن کاملCongenital aortic stenosis: follow-up of surgical management.
We have reviewed the cases operated upon for correction of congenital aortic stenosis at l'Hôpital Ste-Justine between 1959 and 1969.Twenty-five of the 26 patients were readmitted for complete clinical, radiological and hemodynamic investigation. Fourteen had a valvular stenosis, eight a diaphragmatic subvalvular lesion, and three had mixed lesions. The results lead us to believe that the surgic...
متن کاملPacman Heart as a Congenital Cardiac Defect Associated with Flail Mitral Valve and a Partial form of Shone\'s Complex; A Case Report
Partial muscular inter-ventricular septal defect (VSD) or Pacman heart is a rare congenital or occasionally acquired anomaly. Concurrent Pacman heart and Shone's complex are extremely rare and have never been reported until now. We described a 37-year-old male patient with congenital Pacman heart, flail mitral valve (FMV), and a history of multiple congenital anomalies, including subvalvular ao...
متن کاملAnaesthetic management of a parturient with pulmonary stenosis and aortic incompetence for Caesarean section.
Anaesthetic management of Caesarean section in a parturient with severe pulmonary stenosis and aortic regurgitation is described. The valvular sequelae resulted from previous unsuccessful surgical correction (Ross procedure) of congenital aortic stenosis. This case demonstrates the importance of multi-disciplinary assessment and careful anaesthetic planning, to avoid deterioration in perioperat...
